2018 – 2019 Calendar:

November 1–December 13, 2018 (Thursday Nights - no mtg on 11/22) – 6-week Womxn's Astrological Series: MARS – HEARTS ABLAZE

Mars: Hearts Ablaze

Thursdays, Nov 1–Dec 13, 2018
in Uptown Minneapolis
7pm–9/9:30pm (end time between 9-9:30pm)
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” –Anais Nin

Mars – Raw Fire of Life.
Primal Eros.
The function within us which fuels our Will to Survive – in body, mind and spirit. Our Will to Thrive through passion, fierceness and valor.
Mars is the Warrior within.

In our birth charts, Mars lets us know where our souls crave the heat of risk, the life-giving thrill of adventure, where we must passionately engage with Life in order to have a healthy sense of gusto in our day to day. We discover through Mars where boundaries are needed. Becoming a warrior in the face of fear is the high path of Mars. Building courage is the evolutionary aim.

With Mars being the classical ruler of Scorpio, and the solo ruler of Aries, we explore both faces of this planet of desire – both of which are inextricably linked to our sexuality/eros. In this vein, we will also take a look at the Cycle of Sex, which is represented in the birth chart by the relationship between Mars and Venus.
We will examine where Mars is transiting each womxn’s individual chart and discuss how to consciously work with that fiery stimulus in ways of benefit rather than destruction. Transits are catalysts for development and growth. Transiting Mars calls us to decisive action. We must take the initiative and claim what is ours.

Each week, we will have structured time for check-in/sharing. During our first evening together, I will give a talk on Mars. In weeks 2–5, we will dive into individual chart analysis and discussion. Our last evening together will culminate in a Courage-Building Ritual.

Prerequisite to a series: You must have had an Evolutionary Astrology Birth Chart Reading with Jessa prior to the series.

All who participate will receive a copy of each womxn’s birth chart who is in the group, so we can reference and learn from each others’ charts, as well as our own.
November 12–December 17, 2018 (Monday Nights) – 6-week Womxn's Astrological Series: LILITH & SAPPHO

Lilith & Sappho

Mondays, Nov 12–Dec 17, 2018
in Uptown Minneapolis

7pm–9/9:30pm (end time between 9-9:30pm)
We now enter into the untamed, instinctual realm of the feminine through the 3 faces of LILITH (Triple Dark Goddess): Asteroid Lilith, Dark Moon Lilith and True Black Moon Lilith. We will find each of these aspects of the Dark Goddess in our charts and come to understand more deeply how we relate with these parts of ourselves and in relation to our journey as womxn. We will explore the mythology of Lilith and how she has been demonized by the patriarchy. Through this process, we have the opportunity to acknowledge and work transformation on any of the ways we may have internalized this demonization of the deep, dark, untamed, sexual, wrathful, embodied feminine within ourselves and in other womxn.

In the words of asteroid-focused astrologer, Demetra George, in her book, Finding Our Way through the Dark:

“The Asteroid Lilith describes the first stage in the mythical journey where she is suppressed, humiliated and flees in a fiery rage to the desolate wilderness. The Dark Moon Lilith depicts the pain of her exile where she plots and executes revenge. The Black Moon Lilith shows how she transmutes her distorted image back into its natural healthy expression.”
Amidst our deep dive into the powerful, primal energies of Lilith, we allow ourselves to be supported by the inspiring, creative, womxn-centered energy of SAPPHO: Champion and Lover of Womxn. We will come to understand Sappho’s energy in each of us by locating this asteroid in our charts and exploring its meaning.
Sappho was born around the year 615 B.C. in Greece and lived on the island of Lesbos. She taught at an academy for unmarried women and became well-known for her wide collection of poetry (often accompanied by a lyre). Even in the male-dominated world of classic literature, Sappho has long been considered one of the greatest lyric poets of all time. Plato named Sappho “the tenth muse.” She served as the inspiration for countless paintings and sculptures, but unlike the nine mythical muses, Sappho did not exist to facilitate anyone’s art but her own.

Prerequisite to a series: You must have had an Evolutionary Astrology Birth Chart Reading with Jessa prior to the series.

All who participate will receive a copy of each woman’s birth chart who is in the group, so we can reference and learn from each others’ charts, as well as our own.

January 2–Jan 30, 2019 (Weds Nights - no mtg Jan 23) – 4-week Womxn's Astrological Embodiment Series– LILITH: MYSTERIES OF THE DARK GODDESS @ Yess Yoga

LILITH: MYSTERIES OF THE DARK GODDESS

Wednesdays, January 2–January 30, 2019 (no meeting on Jan 23)
at Yess Yoga
7:15pm–9:15pm
In this 4-week series, we enter into the untamed, instinctual realm of the feminine through the Dark Goddess LILITH, who is represented astrologically by the Asteroid Lilith, Dark Moon Lilith and True Black Moon Lilith. We will explore both the astrology and the mythology of Lilith and how this powerful, dark aspect of the feminine has been demonized by the patriarchy. Through this process, we will have the opportunity to acknowledge and work transformation on any of the ways we have internalized this patriarchal distortion of the deep, dark, untamed, assertive, sexual, wrathful, embodied feminine within ourselves and within others.
In the words of asteroid-focused astrologer, Demetra George, in her book, Finding Our Way through the Dark:
“The Asteroid Lilith describes the first stage in the mythical journey where Lilith is suppressed, humiliated and flees in a fiery rage to the desolate wilderness. The Dark Moon Lilith depicts the pain of her exile where she plots revenge. The Black Moon Lilith shows how she transmutes her distorted image back into its natural healthy expression.”
Through the 4 weeks of this series, we will move in an embodied way through the 3 stages of Lilith’s journey via organic movement to music, sounding, guided journeying, partner/group work, reflection, sharing, ritual and more, all held within the container of sacred womxn’s circle. This series invites us into contact with the parts of ourselves we might tend to hide, avoid, fear, feel shame towards and keep bottled up. We are invited to move towards these parts of ourselves with the deepest heart-centered intention of reclaiming and integrating into deeper wholeness and self-love.

Trauma, The Body & Yoga

at YOGA LOFT in Willmar, Minnesota

10am–5:30pm

Facilitated by Jessa Walters, MA, E-RYT, TCTSY-F and Dan Gaustad, DC, RYT, SEP this daylong workshop is designed for yoga teachers and yoga teachers-in-training who are interested in integrating trauma awareness into their teaching. We will explore how these responses become dysregulated as a result of chronic stress and various forms of trauma. Keeping these responses in mind, participants will learn key practical components to guiding yoga/embodiment practices with trauma awareness, including the use of language, the importance of interoception and the facilitator qualities needed to create a trauma-sensitive experience.

In addition to presentation and discussion, Jessa and Dan will guide embodied (somatic) practices throughout the day, including a 60-minute trauma-sensitive yoga practice.

6 CECs for the daylong are available for yoga teachers through Yoga Alliance.

Jessa Walters completed the 300-hour Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F) certification with David Emerson through the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute based in Boston. April 27, 2019 (Sat 6:30-8:30pm) – Womxn's Moon Medicine: Moon in AQUARIUS @ Sun Moon Yoga – Mankato, MN

Womxn’s Moon Medicine: Moon in Aquarius

Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Sun Moon Yoga | 6:30-8:30 pm | $60

Aquarius is the archetype of the Rebel, the Change Maker, She Who Lives by the Beat of Her Own Drum. Aquarian energy rules the process of Individuation – a process where we become aware of how various forms of conditioning (familial, societal, religious, etc) have inhibited our authentic self-expression. As we become aware of this, we then can begin to peel back the layers of conditioning so that we may truly discover and express our true selves. This individuation process often includes shaking up the status quo! Aquarius welcomes each and every one of us flying our freak flags as an enlivening breath of fresh air and a gift to humanity!

Under tonight’s Aquarian Moon, we are invited to embrace our individuality and the freedom of uncensored, authentic self-expression through organic movement to music. The music will be intentionally selected to provide a felt-sense of freedom-loving, freak-flag flying, authenticity-honoring Aquarian energy.

After the movement to music, we will gather in a circle, with time for journaling and sharing. Please dress comfortably in clothing you can move freely in. Feel free to bring your yoga mat, journal and water bottle. Womxn’s Moon Medicine is led by Evolutionary Astrologer, Jessa Walters.

$60

April 28, 2019 (Sunday 9:30am-12:30pm) – HOW TO CREATE & FACILITATE HEALTHY, HEALING WOMXN'S CIRCLES @ Sun Moon Yoga in Mankato, MN

HOW TO CREATE AND FACILITATE HEALTHY, HEALING WOMXN’S CIRCLES

Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Sun Moon Yoga | 9:30am–12:30pm | $90

In this 3-hour intensive, Jessa Walters will share a wealth of resources and wisdom on how to create and sustain healthy, healing womxn’s circles, both personal circles and also circles one may facilitate as part of one’s livelihood and gift to the wider community.

For over 2 years, Jessa has been part of a personal womxn’s circle with egalitarian/rotating leadership that meets every 4-6 weeks in Minneapolis. She also facilitates monthly, drop-in Womxn’s Moon Medicine circles at a local yoga studio, as well as weekly Womxn’s Evolutionary Astrology Series groups. Part of Jessa’s circle work also includes Womxn’s Retreats in Bali, California and Minnesota.

Jessa received her MA in Women’s Spirituality from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco in 2006. Within that program, womxn’s circle work was core to the learning process. She learned through direct experience the elements needed to create a sense of safety in a circle where deep empowerment, connection and authentic expression could unfold. She also learned what can cause dysfunction in a group and feels it is very important to be aware and address this side of circle work.

Jessa also has extensive training in trauma awareness and sensitivity through the 300-hour Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) certification program through the Justice Resource Institute in Boston. She draws deeply upon her training and facilitation experience with TCTSY in her womxn’s circle work.

In this intensive, you will be provided with a strong and inspiring foundation from which you can move forward into creating a womxn’s circle(s) of your own, if you wish to. We will explore the qualities necessary to create safe space, including ways to cultivate shared power in leadership and the benefits of this power dynamic. Jessa will offer circle theme and ritual ideas, sample circle structures and book/online resources to further individual exploration. This workshop will be partly experiential and partly presentation with time for discussion. Please wear clothing you are comfortable in, and please bring a notebook for taking notes, if you wish.

$90

***PLEASE NOTE: Jessa will offer a Womxn’s Moon Medicine at Sun Moon Yoga the night before (Sat, April 27 from 6:30-8:30pm). Attending the Moon Medicine is an opportunity to experience firsthand many of the elements Jessa will be presenting in Sunday’s intensive. The fee for the Moon Medicine is $60. You can bundle the two events together for $150, if you would like to attend both.
