“If I learn the truth in the evening

I can die in the morning,

Confucius said.

But which evening?

Which morning?

Which truth?

If I die in the morning

will I be reborn

in the evening?

If the truth I learn turns out

to be a lie,

do I get to live anyway?

If the lie I learn

turns out to be the truth

and I  am already dead

where does that leave me

tonight and tomorrow?

Nothing to do but surrender.

Whatever thought you just had…

the teacher says in the midst of

the pose,

…name it.”
